Here we go, time for the final pieces to be fabricated and put together. I have learned a few things on this build, welding sheet metal is not easy with tools not designed specifically for it. With a bit of practice and patience I made it work. Would I do it all the same again? Probably not exactly the same way, of course I noticed things I think I could do better on another build. (more…)

Summary
This post details some problems with construction, custom rack rail fabrication (welding), and constructing the frame under the mobile lack rack.
In the last part I listed a welder in the tools section. Now you may be wondering, what is this guy doing with a welder and Ikea furniture, I hope he has a fire extinguisher handy. I do take safety seriously and do keep a fire extinguisher nearby when welding. (more…)

Summary
In this project I use two Ikea Lack coffee tables to build a mobile server rack to be used for a networking class and later as a home server rack. This project adds several materials to the flat pack furniture to give it mobility, added strength, and user friendly features in its new re-purposed life.
